BBC Sport Academy | Other Sport | Rowing | Why not try your hand at Rowing?: "Why not try your hand at Rowing?

Britain has won 21 gold medals in rowing

Sir Steve Redgrave's incredible achievement of winning five gold medals has made rowing a hugely popular Olympic sport in the UK.
And Matthew Pinsent, who has three golds his name, will going for a fourth in Athens. Here's our guide to an oar-some sport!

---------
The sport
Rowing uses more major muscle groups than any other sporting activity - and as your body is supported by the boat there is no jarring of the joints.
At the Olympics, events include individual (or scullers), double sculls, fours and eights.
In the eights, each team has a cox, who steers the boat whilst the others row. All the other races are coxless, so the boat is steered by a rudder line attached to one of the rower's shoes.
All races are held over a course of 2000m. "

----------

Not quite the best description (as they forgot one of the best boat...the pair!! and the fastest boat... the quad!) but it is true, it is the best sport in the world, and every one should do it!! or if not, i dont mind, because it means less clogging of the pontoon (stupid school girl rowers that blog up our pontoon)

:D

.... (elipsis)

well, its a better title than speech recognition that for some reason stayed up there for many posts on end...

anyway, the day is wonderful, it was great on the water, we did a video session...
on the way home i dropped into forrest way to get some crossiants and voltaren and when i hopped back in the car i realised why i got a few strange looks... i was still in my zoot suit with only a pair of stubbies over the top (and bare feet, with messy hair)

yes i am still blogging

just not as frequently, i think also i might start with a private blog again (i'll just do the save as draft), i've tried this public one for a while...

in other news, i am alive, it must have been quite amusing though, yesterday i looked like one of those people on a science fiction film when they're stung by the intergalactical pest and they're skin is as tight as leather and welted all over, but in short i beat the tic... who would have thought too, after all the tic's ive had in my lifetime that this one would be carrying poisen!! neway i feel like i have been hit by a truck... but at least the kind doctor warned me, by telling me that "you will feel like you've been hit by a truck in the morning" which was quite nice of her to warn me.

i rekon those people who are stopping blogging dont need to lose contact with the bloggin world, for example matt, he is still reading...

its anoying although the swelling and welts have pretty much gone all over my body, the ones on my neck, groin and eyes have got worse...

my eyes make me look asian, even my sister said so, she also said its weird seing me with a chubby face again..

well i better get back to cleaning up the house before mum and jesse get back from pearl beach

cheers

the easy life... "travelled for miles... ate... and didnt spend a cent"

today was good, the band practice was called off :'(, so instead i layed out in the sun reading love languages for a while, then i decided i felt like a ride...

so i ended up riding to davidson, dropping into beths, and her mum decided that she would make me lunch, so i had two salad sandwhiches and a smoothie.

'twas good to see beth, for however short, as she had to go to an orientation for targét

then i decided to ride back home, when i got to mona vale road, i decided to go to st ives b4 i went home... i got to st ives and then decided that it would b good to see my grandparents, so i called them, and checked ahead

so off to gordon i went, dropped into my grandparents just as my grandmother was taking some scones out of the oven...

it was good to see them, i dont see them that often, we chatted for a while over tea and scones, and i told them what i was doing next year...

then off home to terrey hills it was for some stretching and laps of the pool

so today, basicly i got some well needed sun... travelled for miles... ate... and didnt spend a cent (5cents or a dollar even, or any money at all)

:)

O God forgive me

Today, upon a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman.
And wished I were as beautiful.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and wore a crutch.
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two legs; the world is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy.
The lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad.
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two eyes; the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child I knew.
He stood and watched the others play,
but he did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join them dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
I forgot, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two ears; the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd know.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, the world is mine.

marriages

Nearly all marriages, even happy ones, are mistakes: in the sense that almost certainly (in a more perfect world, or even with a little more care in this very imperfect one) both partners might be found more suitable mates. But the real soul-mate is the one you are actually married to.
- J.R.R Tolkien
