BBC Sport Academy | Other Sport | Rowing | Why not try your hand at Rowing?: "Why not try your hand at Rowing?

Britain has won 21 gold medals in rowing

Sir Steve Redgrave's incredible achievement of winning five gold medals has made rowing a hugely popular Olympic sport in the UK.
And Matthew Pinsent, who has three golds his name, will going for a fourth in Athens. Here's our guide to an oar-some sport!

---------
The sport
Rowing uses more major muscle groups than any other sporting activity - and as your body is supported by the boat there is no jarring of the joints.
At the Olympics, events include individual (or scullers), double sculls, fours and eights.
In the eights, each team has a cox, who steers the boat whilst the others row. All the other races are coxless, so the boat is steered by a rudder line attached to one of the rower's shoes.
All races are held over a course of 2000m. "

----------

Not quite the best description (as they forgot one of the best boat...the pair!! and the fastest boat... the quad!) but it is true, it is the best sport in the world, and every one should do it!! or if not, i dont mind, because it means less clogging of the pontoon (stupid school girl rowers that blog up our pontoon)

:D
